TECHNICAL CARAMEL ASSOCIATION

Barry Foley photoCOUNTY CORK, IRELAND -- (November 11, 2008) -- Barry Foley, Technical Manager, D.D. Williamson (Ireland) Ltd., was elected Chairman of the European Technical Caramel Association (EUTECA) at its annual meeting.

“With his knowledge of caramel colour operations, quality standards, and customer requirements, Barry will be a terrific leader for EUTECA," said Margaret Lawson, Vice President, Science and Innovation. “We’re confident he will excel in this important leadership role for the caramel colour industry," added Lawson.

The primary mission of EUTECA is to improve knowledge about caramel colour and its benefits.  It delivers factual information to European authorities and the general public, such as consumers or journalists.  Caramel colour, the most widely used food colouring, enhances the visual appeal to beverages, flavours, sauces, baked goods, confections and pet foods.

Since its founding in 1985, EUTECA has provided a forum for caramel colour manufacturers and food processors to discuss and exchange information about technical and scientific matters of common interest.  EUTECA maintains a liaison with other trade associations such as the International Technical Caramel Association (ITCA) and the Confederation of Food and Drink Industries of the EU (CIAA).  EUTECA is a member of the Federation of European Food Additives, Food Enzymes and Food Cultures Industries.
